Urban’s Monster Munchies!

The Urban Monster Munchies team

Well, what a week we had last week! Some of our team took part in a challenge for the Good Food channel’s Monster Munchies TV programme, successfully dishing up a giant portion of fish and chips.

We were up against Bournemouth and Poole College and were tasked with creating a super sized version of much loved seaside dish, fish and chips, in just 24 hours.

It was quite surreal being followed around by a TV crew as we went about preparing and cooking our ingredients within the designated time frame, but great fun. We sourced a 6ft halibut (61kg!), used 40 cans of lager in our beer batter and peeled 60kg of potatoes!

At the end of the 24 hours both dishes were judged in Bournemouth Town Centre on their size, presentation and taste and once judging had commenced members of the public were invited to try each dish. A local homeless shelter also benefitted from food donations.

And one of the best bits was the presenter – retired English rugby player Matt Dawson!

Unfortunately we can’t tell you who won the challenge, so you’ll have to tune in to the Good Food Channel in November where all will be revealed!

Tasty treat!

Tasty treat!

Cocktails are our speciality. We love experimenting and trying out new drinks and we’ve come up with this little lemon inspired beauty. We recommend enjoying it with a slice of lemon torte or lemon cheesecake – any type of lemon dessert will do!

-15ml agave nectar

-50ml Krupnik Polish honey vodka (50ml is the equivalent to a double shot)

-50ml freshly squeezed lemon juice

-1 egg white

Garnish – with a twist of lemon

-Pour all of your ingredients into a Boston shaker (the silver device used in bars to mix cocktails).

-You’ll need to give it a good old shake as the egg white will then help to bind the drink together.

-Strain the drink into a rocks glass (a squat glass) and add a few cubes of ice and your lemon twist if you wish.

There you go, job done. We think this tastes a bit like a lemon meringue pie. Deeelicious!

If you don’t fancy having a go at this yourself then ask our bartender Christian to prepare one for you. He’ll be happy to help. X
